The 2nd Amendment Responsibility Project
Our Mission
Overview
The 2nd Amendment Responsibility Project is a cultural movement of responsible American gun owners who believe the right to keep and bear arms carries with it a duty - to ourselves, to our families, to our communities, and to the country that secures it.
Our mission is to define, uphold, and advance a culture of responsible gun ownership in the United States - grounded in safety, competence, maturity, and civic duty. We are not a lobby. We are not a political action group. We are the standard-setters, the example, and the voice of the broad majority of gun owners who already live this responsibility every day.
Rights endure only when the people who hold them demonstrate that they deserve them. The pages that follow lay out who we serve, what we do, what we refuse to do, and where we are going.
The Spine of the Project
The Foundations
Two documents define the operational spine of this movement: The Standards and The Code of Conduct. Together they answer the questions every serious member must answer for themselves - what we believe, and how we live it.
Foundation Document I
The Standards
Four pillars - Safety, Competence, Maturity, Stewardship - and the personal commitments each member makes. The conduct we hold ourselves to as responsible American gun owners.

The Code of Conduct
How we hold ourselves - and each other - to the Standards. The practice of mentorship, accountability, and the conduct expected of every member in public and within the movement.

Our Purpose
Responsibility is not a regulation, and it cannot be legislated into existence. It is a culture - a set of standards held by the people who live by them, passed from one generation of owners to the next. The 2nd Amendment Responsibility Project exists because that culture is the only durable defense of the right itself. Laws can be rewritten. Court decisions can be revisited. But a nation of demonstrably responsible gun owners is the argument that needs no defense.
We exist to make that culture visible, organized, and self-reinforcing. Not by speaking for gun owners - by being the gun owners who set the standard. Not by arguing online - by living the answer in the daylight, in our homes, on the range, and in our communities. The responsibility movement is not built by writing about it. It is built by being it.
